... knowing myself and my impact
We are all 'two people' - the person we are in our own minds and the person that others perceive us to be from our words, appearance and behaviour. The more clearly we understand how our thoughts guide our actions and how to adjust our words and behaviours to have our intended impact on others, the more effective each of us can be.
In the work place our intended impact is often different to our actual impact - for example someone might feel they are simply giving clear directions but they are perceived as being extremely bossy and or dictatorial. Another person might feel they are consulting often and sharing decision making but they are actually seen as indecisive and needy. This misalignment between intention and perception can cause results such as frustration, friction, rejection, reduced influence, feeling unheard or misunderstood, negativity and lowered engagement.
The first step in addressing this is to become aware of how we see ourselves and how others see us. There are a number of excellent tools available to assist with this, and with the support of an accredited person, awareness can develop into acceptance and then on to appropriate improvement action.
